10+ months

Here's Zibby just before I went on vacation in March. He was about 10 1/2 months at the time. He's a little squirmy in these pics, so it was really hard to get a good picture. But it gives you a good idea of his size. He's nearly a year now, so he's even bigger than this!

Here he is with that house shoe again. He loves that thing!!

He likes to pretend he doesn't like the water, but he definitely has fun splashing around at times.

He's started doing this very strange thing lately...
I have no clue why he likes to sit in his waterbowl and just putting his belly in it! That's the same water bowl as before. It's a full size loaf pan! Dang, he's HUGE!

Thanks for stopping by!

9+ Months

I don't have the pic next to the deck of cards right now, but maybe next week once he hits 10 months on March 5.

These are just a mix of different pics we've taken of him the last week or so. There's actually people in some of these pics!! ;)

First of all, doesn't it seem like just yesterday or last week that he was this small?!?!! ...a mere 4 inches and very sweet. Here he is sitting in Rob's hand at about a week or so old.

And here he is today!! You can see he still loves his "daddy"!! Rob says it's because he doesn't aggravate him much. He just allows him to be himself while they occupy the same space. Men and their 'reptilian brains'.... :D Rob was taking a quick nap in the first shot. Zibby likes to just lay right next to him and absorb his body heat and sleep, too. The second pic is after a bath. Zibby likes to lay his head on your shoulder and sleep after a nice warm bath!

Thankfully, he still loves his "mommy," too! I do more playing and cuddling with him. I pet on him all the time. Most of the time he really likes it; at other times he just tolerates it. I seem to want more of his attention than he wants of mine! :D But he's a sweetie about it and doesn't get angry or mean. He just tries to "get down" much like a child would when he's had enough, I suppose.

And here he is watching television propped up on his beloved house shoe! Yes, if he can see the television, he likes to watch it!! He's a funny boy. We knew before we bought him that Savannah Monitor's are very, very high on the intelligence scale of reptiles. (Iguana's are pretty far down on the intelligence scale.) Hence Zibby's ability to be bathroom trained and leash trained. He doesn't care for a leash much, but he's young yet. We'll have to buy him a harness this year because he's so big!! We measured them in the pet store the other day to see what size we should get. I was thinking maybe Chihuahua size, but after looking at them, he's about 3 sizes bigger!! And he's nowhere near finished growing!

This pic is Zibby sleeping with his stuffed ferret. He seems to be able to 'take it or leave it' at times, but he also likes to 'cuddle' with it, too. Hubby says it's just because it's so soft.

7 - 8 months

OK. (This was in December.) So here's the obligatory pic of Zibby next to the deck of cards so that you can see how much he has grown... Hubby says he's more than 24 inches now.

You can see just how much he's grown here because when we got him, he was about 4 inches long. (I think this is January.) That's about as long as one of my fingers. Now his head is that big...

And again, with my hand in the pic, you can see how big he truly has become. ...and he's only about half grown. And yes, he is still very sweet. As with all lizards, they must be obtained as babies and raised and socialized with their "person" or people.

As I read about the Savannah Monitor before we bought him (which is a very good idea with any pet), I knew that his number one goal in life was to try to escape from his home. That's normal. When he was first put in this enclosure, he was so small that he didn't even come up the edge of this full size loaf pan that we use for his water bowl. Now he can reach the top of the enclosure! But we have security measures in place so he can't get out...

You can see his full body here. You can also see his water bowl. The shoe in his enclosure is an old houseshoe of hubby's. Everytime we would let him roam around the house, he would always go to hubby's old shoe and climb right in it and stay there. After doing that several times, we just put the shoe in his house. He loves it!! It's like his "blankie" or something!!

Another way of knowing his size is to know that hubby's old shoe is a size 10.

Here he is going to get a drink of water.

After all the pics, Zibby says, "Aw, come on, Mom!! Isn't that enough pictures already?!!" :P Isn't he cute?! :D
